Food Desert Solution?

With liberty and produce for all.

You know about “food deserts,” right? Areas where there is little or no nutritious food to be had due to lack of grocery stores, farm markets, etc. They often happen in urban areas where the only food establishments within walking distance or on the bus line are fast food and convenience stores.

So here’s an idea: Produce vending carts. Perhaps horse-drawn? Right through food-desert neighborhoods on Sunday morning, perhaps with longer stops in church parking lots as services let out. Take the farm market to the people!

I like this idea. I would say that they should hang around the church parking lots, at least in Detroit.
I know that the Greening of Detroit has had success in some neighborhoods…reportedly, people have broken down crying when they realized that there would be vegetables for them. This would break me…I would be bawling, too!!!
