Anyone ordering from Fedco?

Is anyone ordering seeds from Fedco this year? I’d like a $1 packet of Sweet Meat squash seeds, but Fedco adds a $5 surcharge to any order under $30. But if I could piggy back on someone’s existing order…

Oi! I just orderd $500 in spuds! If I order again I will let you know first.
Speaking of which, if you need onion sets let me know – I accidently ordered 800 – forgot that there are 200 per pound…

Most of my veggie seeds will likley be from Seed Savers this year as I try to do more with less… if you can call 260#’s of seed potatoes “less”!!

    Rob-

Thanks for thinking of me, even if it’s too late to get in on your spud order! (I think their tubers and seeds come from different catalogs, anyway.)

I love onion sets, but I can get them in town very cheap – I’d probably spend less to buy here than to ship your spares. Unless you have really neat varieties… 🙂 All I get here are “yellow,” “white,” “red,” and “Stuttgarter.” -E

I like the general idea of sharing plants and seeds. I always grow too many plants and scour my gardening friends to take extras, and it is a lot cheaper to order bigger packets of seeds (I use a lot of Johnny’s). It would be good to figure out a more organized way to do this. Maybe through Preserving Traditions?

    Buttercup-

Yep, I think you’re right. And Preserving Traditions would be a great venue. I wonder if it’s too late to try to organize it this year? Any chance you’d like to take a stab at it, under the auspices of PT?

I’d be happy to be involved with it. Have to think about how to work it. Easiest to do freewill exchanges rather than trying to charge each other, don’t you think? Equity is always an issue but we could try for one year and see if everyone feels fairly treated.

Another way to go would be to place one, large order. If we could find an easy way online to have people post their wish lists…then if something’s on the list, someone else could say “Me, too”…and each person could chip in what will cover their portion of the bill…then we place one big order and divvy things up later…?
