I love my home

I can honestly say I enjoyed my five days off work, staying home, gardening, and planting trees more than my 10-day trip to Europe. That was a work trip, sure, but honestly? I love my garden and hearth so much, the wonders of the world sorta pale in comparison.

I feel the same way about my home. Just returned after 5 days away to visit my sister–I love my sister and all, but I would have preferred to spend those five days at home working on the garden!

Hi Emily, Just admiring your porch photo and noticed the roofing… Too cool! Was it done like wattle fencing?

It’s similar – this is willow, I believe, held together with wire. You can buy it at garden stores as willow fencing.

Yes, the weaving technique (called wattle) can be done with willow or any flexible twigs – like cedar or red alder – and was a fencing technique done by the ancient Britons.
